Developing support services, training staff, improving station signage and, above all, continuing to make stations accessible throughout the country: making transport accessible involves numerous actions.

In addition to these many initiatives, SNCF Réseau is also mobilizing in 2022 to raise awareness among Group employees, partners and suppliers alike, identify the most innovative solutions and join forces with major popular events. The past year has also been dedicated to preparing for major upcoming sporting events in France, such as the Rugby World Cup 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We brought as many partners as possible into the movement

In 2022, the 9 national associations representing disabled people and people with reduced mobility continued to help SNCF Réseau build an accessibility policy for the rail world, so that it takes into account the diversity of situations of disabled customers and those with reduced mobility.

SNCF Réseau's Accessibility Department has also been working with new partners, such as Le Train and Europe Express (the Grand Tour). The entire rail system is mobilizing to make further progress in stations and on trains. In 2023, this commitment by the sector took concrete form with the signing of a new consultation protocol involving all railway companies.

    A sporting victory for accessibility

The year 2022 was also a year of sporting triumph, as the French Wheelchair Rugby team, supported by SNCF Réseau, won its first European Championship title on Saturday February 26 in Paris, against defending champions Great Britain. It was a great achievement for our athlete, Cédric Nankin, one of the architects of this victory and an SNCF athlete. While SNCF Réseau is also a partner of the Wheelchair Rugby World Cup, which is taking place this autumn alongside the Rugby World Cup 2023, its Chairman and CEO Mathieu Chabanel talks to Cédric Nankin at the opening of our Accessibility Report 2022.

Since 2020, the law for a new rail pact has entrusted SNCF Réseau with the coordination of players (transport companies, associations, AOM...) to make the rail transport system accessible to people with disabilities or reduced mobility.

On January1, 2020, the SNCF Group's Accessibility Department was attached to SNCF Réseau's Customers and Territories Division.
